July 17-18: HSC presents HAMLET

Join us for Shakespeare under the stars at the DeSoto Amphitheater on July 17 and 18 at 7:30 p.m. as Harrisburg Shakespeare Company presents Hamlet!  This event is part of our Community Outreach Series and admission is Bring Your Own Price, where ANY SIZE donation buys your admission!  This 80-minute performance is great for Shakespeare novices and experts alike.

Harrisburg Shakespeare Company (HSC) is part of Gamut Theatre Group, and has been providing a unique and widely praised cultural resource to the Central PA community since 1994. HSC is best known for Free Shakespeare in the Park, which provides critically acclaimed free performances to thousands each summer.

Hamlet asks, “What piece of work is a man?” in one of the most powerful and influential tragedies in the English language. A modern version of this age old play is sure to intrigue and challenge anyone with the question, “To be, or not to be?”

This version of the play has been shortened, and is extremely accessible, employing Gamut’s unique educational outreach style of combining Shakespeare’s original text with modern “narrations” to bridge the most famous scenes from the play together into an easy-to-understand story. Following each performance there will be a “talk-back” session in which audience members can ask the director and actors questions about their performance choices.

Audiences may bring picnics to enjoy during the performance. BYOB responsibly. Concessions will be available for purchase at the event.  Shakespeare in the Woods is sponsored by Kyle Kauffman in memory of A.B. “Abe” Derr.
