Saturday, September 8 – Tröegs Rugged Trail Run

Celebrate the Center’s 500 acres of rustic woodland beauty at the Tröegs Rugged Trail Run for Conservation!  The Center is thrilled to partner with Tröegs Brewing Company for this exciting event!  This year’s proceeds will directly help support funding for our new outdoor play area opening spring of 2018!
TIME: Registration begins at 4:00 p.m.

Friday, September 14 – A Country Gala

The Gala is one of the Center’s premiere fundraising events, and we hope you will join us in celebration of nature and the arts on Friday, September 14 at 6:30 p.m. right here at the Center, 176 Water Company Rd, Millersburg, PA. This great evening features food stationslive and silent auctions, musical entertainment and so much more!

Saturday, September 22 – Shotgunn 

Last show of the season! Shotgunn got its start in the 1970s, playing gigs all over the Lykens Valley. They reunited in the early 2000s, playing benefit concerts for organizations all over the place. Shotgunn plays rock and funk hits from the ’60s and ’70s, anything from Chicago, and Blood Sweat and Tears to Lynyrd Skynyrd, and Jefferson Airplane. There’s something for everyone. Sponsored by Fred and Anne Meckley.
TIME: Doors Open 6:30 p.m., show begins at 7:30 p.m.
LOCATION: DeSoto Amphitheater at the Ned Smith Center for Nature and Art

Saturday, September 22 – Hunter Trapper Safety

This training course is required by law for all first-time hunters and trappers before buying a license and is open to anyone age 11 and older. There will be a certification exam at the end of the course. Course manuals are available at the Ned Smith Center gift shop during regular hours (Tuesday-Saturday, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.). Lunch will be provided. To register, please visit the Pennsylvania Game Commission website (pgc.pa.gov), click on “Education,” and search for this class by name and location. There is no charge for the course, the manuals or lunch.
TIME: 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.

Saturday, September 29 – Wildlife Art Auction

Always wanted to own a Ned Smith original or print? Looking for great wildlife art, prints and originals? This is your event. We will have over 150 pieces of wildlife art for you to take home with you.
TIME: 9:30 a.m. – 2 p.m.
LOCATION: the Ned Smith Center for Nature and Art
ADMISSION: Free, Winners of items will pay for those items

Tuesday, October 9 – Ned Smith: A Celebration

Join NSCNA on what would be Ned’s 99th birthday and celebrate the late artist and the legacy he has left behind. We will hear stories from several people who knew this Pennsylvanian environmental champion and also watch the recent documentary produced by WITF. Pre-registration suggested, but not required. All guests at this even will have the opportunity to win a Ned Smith print.
TIME: 6 – 8 p.m.

ADMISSION: Free admission, donations accepted.

Saturday, October 13 – Fall Family Fun Day: Welcoming Winter

Another of our annual traditions, Fall Family Fun Day is all about the kids! For 2018 we have planned crafts and activities for the kids that have to do with how animals prepare for winter. We will also have ZooAmerica, wagon rides along the “Wic” and a very special dedication of Nature’s Discovery Play area.
TIME: noon to 4 p.m.

Friday, November 2 – An Evening with Owls

Experts on night-time raptors will explore the facts and shatter the myths about these beautiful creatures. This program features live owls from Penn State University’s Shaver’s Creek
Environmental Center. Certified bird banders from the Center’s Northern Saw-Whet Owl Banding Project will provide owl banding demonstrations and discuss efforts to gather more information on the tiny birds that migrate through Penn’s Woods on cold fall nights.

Saturday, November 11 – Popcorn Hat Players present Aladdin

One of the most famous tales from Arabian Nights, the story of Aladdin and his magic lamp has entertained all ages for hundreds of years.  Join Aladdin and his super-powered Genie as he learns an important lesson in responsibility. Can Aladdin outwit the evil Fazeem and win the heart of the beautiful princess?  Remember, be careful what you wish for!

Saturday, November 10 – Cruisin’ the Cosmos: Postcards from the Universe

Following a 7 P.M. presentation by NASA’s Jerry Bonnell, we will bundle up for some fall star-gazing with telescopes set up by members of the Astronomical Society of Harrisburg (ASH). If skies are cloudy, we will have some telescopes set up indoors for a “Telescope Lab” with ASH members. Also, if you need help in setting up or using your own telescope, bring it along. Presented in cooperation with Astronomical Society of Harrisburg, Millersburg Rotary Club, and Millersburg Borough. Pre-registration suggested, but not required. Free admission, donations accepted.

Thursday, November 15 – Winter Bird Feeding

Scott Bills is back to teach us more about some of our favorite backyard birds. Some birds don’t fly south for the winter, learn how to help care for our feathered friends during the coldest part of the year.
